Prologue
• The novel begins with a Prologue.
• It is 2009.
• In the prologue, journalist Patrice Arnofsky is interviewing Gualtiero Agnello for Connecticut Magazine.
• Gualtiero is a famous painter.
• Gualtiero is telling Patrice about Joe Jones, a famous painter that he helped to discover.
• Jones was a black man who lived on the property of Angus Skloot.
• Angello awarded Jones the first prize in an art contest, but Jones did not become famous until after he was dead.
• Angello tells Patrice how Jones was found dead in a well and although foul play was considered, his death was eventually ruled an accidental death.
• Angello goes on to tell Patrice how he helped to discover Annie Oh by awarding her the same first prize...
