1) Class Writing Activity: Read aloud with the class the part where Momma talks about how much she hates and fears the cold in Michigan. Have the students each write a short prediction about what this statement could be foreshadowing. Do you believe Momma will get over her hatred of the cold? Why or why not? What evidence is there in the scene to support your belief? Allow some volunteers to read their ideas.
