• The author is the niece of President Donald Trump and, though the book is non-fiction, recounts of events that happened in the past frequently call for changes in tense.

• In the Prologue, Mary Trump observes that she liked her name (Trump) as a child because it suggested courage.

• However, when her name became associated with power and real estate in New York, she started having mixed feelings about her name.

• Those feelings persisted when Donald Trump became president of the United States.

• As she enters Union Station on her visit to the White House to celebrate her aunts, Maryanne's and Elizabeth's birthdays, she sees her name on slogans and placards that are critical of the president...
