Objective

The objective of this lesson is to discuss Tracy's father's situation, and what is revealed about tenacity. Tracy's father was convicted of a murder charge even though he had an alibi. Tracy will do anything she can to get her father's case reviewed and get him released.

Lesson

Class Discussion: Why was James convicted of murder? What was his sentence? How long has he been in prison? How much time does he have before he will be executed? Why is Tracy's only option to help her dad to write letters and to mention the case on Jamal's interview? How persistent has she been in writing letters? Why is she so determined? How does being tenacious get her in trouble? What is revealed about tenacity?

Activity: Divide the students into small groups. Have each group discuss how Tracy's tenacity affects her family. What has Tracy been told...
