This first section is written from the perspective of a young child because when these things took place, Sarah was a young girl. The objective of this lesson will be to discuss some of the things that indicate that this is from the eyes of a young girl, and to examine how this affects the feeling and tone of this part of the narrative.

Lesson

1) Text Analysis: Read aloud with the class a part of the first section that is written from the perspective of a young girl. Now read aloud with the class a part from a later section that is written from the viewpoint of an adult. As a class make a list of all the differences between these two bits of narrative. Some things on this list might include vocabulary, knowledge, understanding, excitement, innocence, and tone.
