Would you do the same, if in the same position? Would barring them from playing keep either of them any safer? Explain why you believe she does this and support your reasons.

Bread crumbs are dropped by Hansel to create a trail through the woods. They find a old "witch" living in a cabin in the woods. During Gretel's illness, she screams "Don't eat me! Don't fatten me up!" (119) to Magda, as Magda administers food and medicine. Finally, the boy and girl are hidden in the oven to not be found by the Germans. How do these all relate to the fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel. Do you think the author used the references in an effective manner? Explain your answers, be sure to provide support.
