This object symbolizes a complete renunciation of materialism. Shortly before Knight entered the woods to begin a solitary life of his own creation, he asked his brother to co-sign for a loan to help him buy this object. At the time, he had really wanted this object, but once he decided to disappear into the forest, he abandoned this object, where Finkel says it might still be today.
