• Jaya calls her husband, Patrick, who immediately understands that the reason for the phone call is his wife's bleeding, indicating a third miscarriage.

• Jaya explains that she and Patrick have had three miscarriage, despite using in-vitro fertilization methods. The doctor tells them that they must wait another year before trying for another baby.

• Jaya, who already suffers from chronic blackouts, admits that she has become more withdrawn and depressive, while Patrick becomes more reclusive.

• Patrick separates from Jaya and sublets a nearby apartment.
