He starts it playing, and the baby quiets. He continues working on his gun. When the record stops, he restarts it. When his gun is repaired, he raises the gun and shoots.

In 1896, there is a plague of doves. They eat the wheat seedlings, the rye, and the corn. Nothing the Indians or the whites do seem to help. Then he wants them to walk the fields and pray loudly as they walk to get rid of the doves.
