Anjum

This character is one of the novel’s two major female characters. She was born Aftab, the name that her parents gave her when they believed that she was born a boy. She was later revealed as having genitals with aspects of both sexes, making her a hermaphrodite or “hijra.” She has chosen to live her life as a female.

S. Tilottama
