Objective

Although von Kleist passed away at the young age of thirty-four, he left behind a number of notable works and is considered one of the most significant German writers of his time. This lesson discusses the author of "The Marquise of O, and Other Stories," Heinrich von Kleist.

1) Library research: Have the students research the author, Heinrich von Kleist. Explore the other works he has written, as well as his background. Take a look at critical essays and available biographical information to gain a better understanding of the author's background and where the short stories of "The Marquise of O, and Other Stories" fit in with his other work.
