1. Why does Isabel bring a trunk to Amal?
Isabel brings Amal a trunk she found in New York that had once belonged to Isabel's great-grandmother, Anna Winterbourne. The trunk is filled with letters, journals and documents saved by Isabel's great-grandmother when she lived in Egypt. Since many of the documents are written in Arabic, a language Isabel cannot read, Isabel brings the trunk to Amal in order to have the documents translated. Isabel hopes her great-grandmother's journals and letters will provide insight into her own ancestry.
