Lesson 1

Objective

Students will complete research to learn about whom Sandra Cisneros is and the culture in which she writes about.

Lesson

Activity: Provide students time to complete research about Sandra Cisneros. Questions to guide them may include: When was Cisneros’s books published? How many books has she written? Where is she from? Has she won any awards? What do other writers and book critics say about her?

Assignment: While students are conducting research, have them take notes on the information they are learning.

Homework: Students will write a one-page summary of everything that they learned from their research lesson. The paper can be about Cisneros’s life or any of her writing.

Objective

Students will “preview” the text and discuss their first impressions of the book with the class.
