Essay Topics

Write an essay for ONE of the following topics:

Essay Topic 1

In one of his later imprisonments, Yun was ordered (along with the other prisoners) by prison officials to worship Buddha. Why would Buddhism be sanctioned by the Chinese government, and Christianity forbidden? Are there things about Christianity that are threatening to any government? Explain your view.

Essay Topic 2

What about Christianity do you think was such a threat to China (and other nations)? Did the violence towards Christians seem to be in balance for the "crimes" committed? Where do you think this intolerance toward Christianity comes from?

Essay Topic 3

Yun met varying degrees of commitment from Christians as he traveled to different parts of China. Some were willing to risk all, even their lives to help Yun, others were fearful and would not help at all. Why do you think this was so? What could make the responses vary so widely? Did Yun judge those Christians, or harbor bitterness towards them?
