Maturity is an important theme in this book that is seen in David as he was forced to grow up early when his mother died. The objective of this lesson will be to discuss how this theme affects the characters in the book, as well as to evaluate what level of maturity is held by the main characters.

Lesson

1) Introduction of Lesson Material: Write on the board in large letters the words 'Mature' and 'Immature'. Have the students write a list of ten one word responses that come to mind when seeing and thinking about these two terms. Allow each student a chance to read their lists. Write each new item on the board. Discuss this with the class. How do these lists make you feel? How many terms were repeated? Which list is more varied in its responses? Why do you think that...
