Knowing about an author is crucial for gaining a better understanding of any text. The objective of this lesson is to learn more about Stieg Larsson as the author of "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."

Lesson

1) Focusing Exercise: Have students write for 5 minutes in response to the following prompt: "Why is knowing information about the author important when reading a text?" Collect their responses.

2) Class Lecture: Lecture the class for 5-10 minutes with some information about Stieg Larsson. Who was he? What is he known for? What was his life like? What was his academic background (journalism, political activism, etc.)? What inspired him to write the Millennium Series/"The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest"? What has happened over the years in regard to the popularity of his books? What do the critics think? This can also be a good opportunity...
