Objective

The objective of this lesson is to examine Jack's character, and whether he is arrogant or simply confident in his abilities. Jack comments that he is "the guy who other people want to be" (24) in Chapter 6. Then he lists all the things he can do well.

What does the incident during the search party for Anna reveal about him and the type of person he is and the type of friends that he has? Why does Jack think of himself as a "douchebag" (7)? How does Jack describe himself in Chapter 6? What does the conversation about valedictorian indicate about him? How does Jack help Alex when she is walking in the rain? How does Jack seem to see himself? Is Jack arrogant or simply confident in his abilities?
