What assumptions are made by those who uncover them? What eventual pattern is seen by Hutch and what conclusions are drawn as a result?

Essay Topic 2

What action is taken that is supposed to convince the archaeologists that they must leave the planet? Who initiates this action, and what consequence occurs as a result? Who decides to retaliate, and what retaliation is planned? How does this retaliation compare with the initial offense? Did the culprit on either side ever take responsibility for their actions and if so, when and how? Was anyone injured in either case?

What is Project Hope? What is the basic plan and how do those in charge believe it can be carried out? What conflict exists between Project Hope and the archaeologists on the planet? Who are the people in charge on each side, and what decisions are made about the timing for this project? Why is this project so important to those on Earth? How long is it likely to take from beginning to end?
