Lesson

1) Class Discussion: The river Drina flows forcefully through steep mountain rocks and gorges until it widens into rolling hills. The mountains are so steep and close, they look like a "dark wall." Discuss with the class how the river, the mountains, and the town are described. What language does the author use to create a picture of the powerful river? How is the town described? What does the land produce in abundance?

2) Small Group Activity: Form small groups and ask them to summarize the descriptions of the river from Chapters 1-2. How do people cross before the bridge...
