1. How is Kenji hit by a truck driver?

Kenji is a jazz clarinetist. He had been playing and gig and went out with his musician friends drinking or drugging. On his way home he stumbles and falls in the alley. He is close to home and could probably crawl there. Instead, he simply lays on his back. Crows cover his body to keep him warm. A truck driver carrying chickens to a Chinese slaughterhouse sees the crows and thinks they are picking through a garbage bag. The truck driver hits Kenji.

2. What does Annabelle know about Kenji's family?

Kenji never liked to talk about his family. All Annabelle knows is that he was born in Hiroshima and his parents died when he was young. His sister, who was an infant at the time, had been sent to live with his aunt and uncle. Kenji had been raised by their grandparents in Kyoto. Kenji lost touch with his sister over the years and he had no other family.
