Objective

Part 1

The objective of Daily Lesson #1 is for students to improve their ability to define words in a way that connects new learning to prior knowledge.

Lesson

1. Class Activity: Complete a vocabulary anchor graphic organizer to discuss definitions of pertinent vocabulary from the story.

2. Individual Activity: Have the students create a list of key vocabulary terms which were difficult for them or they feel might be difficult for their classmates (none is not acceptable). Have them use each one in a sentence about themselves.

3. Class Activity & Discussion: Have the students identify affixes (both prefix and suffixes) which effect the meanings of said vocabulary words. Discuss word origins and how this might be a significant area to review and study.

4. Partner Activity: Have the students take a core list of words and add affixes to them to change their meaning and identify exactly how the meaning changes...
