Jane feels very lonely and as though she has lost her identity through her marriage. The object of this lesson will be to discuss how some groups or unions can make us feel isolated rather than welcomed. The students will find parallels between Jane's situation and their own.

Lesson

1) Read aloud with the class the part where Jane talks to the Dimbles about her loneliness. Discuss this with the class. Why does her marriage make her feel this way? Is this strange? How is a marriage supposed to make one feel? What is different about this union? Have you ever felt this way? Have the students write a letter from Jane to Mark telling him how Jane feels and what he can do to help her feel more loved and involved.
