Other Cultures

Research another culture different from yours and their perspectives on love and marriage. Compare and contrast that culture's views with one of the characters from the story.

Newspaper

Bring in any newspaper clipping demonstrating a real-life example of love, in the romantic sense of the word or not. Write down what you can learn from the article in terms of your own understanding about love.

Poetry

Write a short (1-2 paragraph) love poem from Mel to his wife. The poem can be in any style, just make sure it demonstrates characteristics of Mel as portrayed in the story. Be prepared to read it aloud in class.

Properties of Alcohol

Briefly research the properties of gin (or alcohol in general) and write a few sentences about the impact it can have on a person's emotional state, logical thinking, and overall judgment.
