Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss Given and how he died. Given is Leonie's older brother. He was shot and killed during a hunting trip.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who was Given? What did he enjoy doing? How much older was he than Leonie? Who were his friends? How old was he when he died? Why does Leonie still think he is a part of her life? How does he still try to connect with Leonie? Why does Leonie think he connects with her and not her mother? How would you describe Given, who he was, and his role in Leonie's life now?
Activity: Divide the students into small groups. Have each group discuss whether Given's death was a hunting accident. Who was Given hunting with? What contest did Given have with a cousin of Michael's? What does the cousin's father say about the shooting...
