Class Discussion: Fiction authors may invent their material, use their lives as inspiration, or both. What conclusions can be drawn between this author’s biography and this book? Is the author’s history always important? Does the author’s background have to influence their work? Why or why not?

Individual Activity: What age group did Albertalli work with as a therapist? What is the age of the children in her support group? Write a paragraph explaining how understanding the adolescent mind gives the author a more realistic platform to work from.
