Essay Topics
Write an essay for ONE of the following topics:
Essay Topic 1
In class, you discussed the novel's setting of a shopping channel. How does the setting affect or influence the novel's plot developments? What points in the novel are highly impacted by the setting? What points would be similar if the novel had another main setting, such as a television news network or a customer call center for a cell phone company?
Essay Topic 2
Most novels have a variety of character types, such as round, flat, static, dynamic and sympathetic. Choose two of these character types and select one character from the novel for each that you feel is the perfect example for the types. Explain your reasons, using quotes from the novel, why you believe these characters are the perfect examples of those character types.

Several characters in the novel have very different ideas of domestic happiness -- that is, what makes for a happy home life. Select at least three characters and use quotes from the novel to analyze the similarities and differences in their visions of domestic happiness.
