Prologue
• The Vampire Chronicles is the saga of contemporary vampires fighting to save the human race from Akasha, the original vampire. Self-important, mean-spirited and more than a little crazy, she has risen from six-thousand years of sleep with a plan to slaughter all males.
• The Vampire Lestat summarizes the second book of The Vampire Chronicles so that readers will be up-to-date for The Queen of the Damned, the third installment of the Chronicles. In recounting events, Lestat describes his success with an autobiography, a record, and a live concert in San Francisco.
• He acknowledges betraying his fellow vampires by making their secrets public. Enraged, they plot to kill him and his closest associates on the night of the concert.
