Essay Topic 1
Creating the units that make up a swarm takes a very delicate manufacturing process. Xymos has gone out of its way to create an assembly that is unlike any other. Write an essay explaining how the Xymos assembly process works. What materials does Xymos use to manufacture their units? Why is their process more like genetic engineering and less like nano manufacturing? What are the magnetic fields and cryogenic rooms used for? What is the product of the process and how does it fit into the whole? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.
Essay Topic 2
Honesty is a trait that is scarcely found in the older characters in Prey. Jack is an honest man while Julia is a dishonest woman. The same goes for Mae and Ricky. Write an essay exploring the ideas of honesty and truth. How does honesty play into the plot of the story? Which characters are the most truthful, open, and honest? Which are the least truthful? Which are the most secretive? Why? Could being honest have saved the lives of some of the characters in Prey? Why or why not? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Several of the characters in Prey are overly concerned with accumulating wealth and success. Eventually these obsessions lead to their downfall.
