Essay Topic 1

There are multiple antagonists in Prey. The swarms developed by Xymos are the most powerful and daunting of them all. Write an essay explaining how the swarms are the major antagonist throughout the story. What sort of trouble do the swarms create? How does the evolutionary process the swarm goes through affect the protagonists in the story? Why is the swarm more and more difficult to kill as the plot progresses? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Essay Topic 2

Write an essay detailing some of the character traits that make Mae the strongest female character. In which instances is she quick to think on her feet? Does she ever get flustered or angry with other characters in the story? Why or why not? What led her to being a programmer, and how have her experiences helped her prepare for what happens in Prey? Provide specific examples from the text to support your position.

Honesty is a trait that is scarcely found in the older characters in Prey. Jack is an honest man while Julia is a dishonest woman. The same goes for Mae and Ricky.
