Meet the Amish!

If there is internet access in the classroom, divide the students into small groups and have each group research on the internet a different topic about Amish culture: history, language, customs, geographic location, beliefs, etc. If there is no internet, provide the students with other materials such as books to complete the exercise.

Once a group has collected sufficient information, have them write a short essay on what they've learned. Post the essays on the bulletin board in the room, and have the small group act as subject matter experts when the issue comes up throughout Plain Truth.

Every Amish teenager spends a year in the English world before they choose either baptism and permanency as an Amish adult, or to leave the Amish Community and be banished. Have each student write what they would do for a year, if they could do anything...
