Lesson

1) With the students, brainstorm what they already know about John Milton. What influence has he had on popular culture? What other works has he written? Do his works tend to be similar in their styles and themes? Divide the students into pairs and ask them to research Milton's life and write a short biography. End the lesson by comparing the student's work.

2) Brainstorm with the students Milton's poems. What are the subjects of the poems? What themes do they cover? Divide the students into pairs and assign them each one of Milton's poems to research.
