The objective of this lesson is to discuss the name Bird, and what it relates about identity. Bird's name on his birth certificate is Noah, after his father's father. However, he calls himself Bird because that describes who he is.

Class Discussion: When did Bird take his nickname? How was the nickname Bird a part of identity? How did his mother fight for him to be called Bird at school? Why did the school resist? How did they capitulate? When and why did Bird start being called Noah? In Chapter 1, how long has Bird answered to the name Noah? Why does the name feel awkward like a rubbery Halloween mask? How does the name hide Bird's identity? What do the names Bird and Noah relate about identity and who Bird is?
