Clausewitz says that war is an extension of a country's political policies. The objective of this lesson is to discuss what war is today compared to war during Clausewitz' time.

Lesson

1) Independent Work: Library Research: Find reasons why war often starts by choosing two wars to review. Were all wars started because of specific policies? What is different and similar between the two wars chosen?

2) Class Discussion: Discuss your views on the evolution of the definition of war. Why did wars begin prior to and leading up to Clausewitz' time? Did the wars of the past 10 years mark a real turn in the definition of war? How do you see future wars starting? Did the definition of war change over time?

3) Group Debate: Students should have 5 minutes to prepare a response regarding the necessity...
