• In “Arrested,” Jack Kennison decides to drive nearly an hour to Portland to buy whiskey, rather than seeing Oliver Kitteridge or some other widow at the grocery store in Crosby, Maine.
• In Portland, Jack walks along the beach and thinks about his life and how lonely he is.
• No one pays any attention to him.
• Once he walked the campus at Harvard and people paid attention to his good-looks.
• Students would glance at him with deference, and he would be considered intimidating during campus meetings.
• As he watches families together, he thinks about how lucky they are to have someone.
• He calls his daughter, Cassie.
• She does not know how to respond when he calls, because they have been estranged due to an affair he...
