Objective

The objective of this lesson is to discuss why Naheed attracts stares, and what is revealed about being Muslim. Naheed wears a headscarf. That and the fact that she is Muslim often causes people to stare and ask questions.

Lesson

Class Discussion: Why does Naheed attract the attention of the boy who is with Sergio? Why does Sergio know why she is dressed like that? Why does the boy he is with not know why she is dressed like that? What are some questions that people ask Naheed because of the head covering? Why is she not Arab? Is she Middle Eastern? Where was she born? Is she a U.S. citizen? Where are her parents from? Why does Naheed not buy a magazine? What is revealed about being Muslim?

Activity: Divide the students into small groups. Have each group discuss how often Naheed is stared...
