• Night of the Living Rez consists of 12 short stories set on a Penobscot (Panawahpskek) reservation in Maine.
• All of the stories are written in the first person, from the perspective of David, a young Penobscot man, who is sometimes called "Dee" by his friends.
• The stories take place at different times in David's life and are not presented in chronological order.
• "Burn," the first story in the collection, opens in winter as David walks back onto the reservation after an unsuccessful attempt to get marijuana from a Rab, a white man living off the reservation in Overtown.
• David pretended to have lost his money on the walk over, but Rab did not believe him and refused to give him...
