Word Web for Book One

Instructions: Prepare a page with words scattered throughout, using different fonts and size print. Have the students draw arrows between any of the words that are linked in some way. On the line of the arrow have the students write what that link is. Use any or all of the following words:

Rat: Bigger killed rat; Buddy helped chase the rat; Mrs. Thomas and Vera were afraid of the rat

Knife: Bigger threatened Gus with it, Bigger cut the pool table at the pool hall, Bigger cut off Mary's head with it

Ax: Bigger used this while murdering Mary, and then throws it into the furnace

Newspaper: Bigger reads about himself in the newspaper

Pool Hall: where Bigger, Jack, G.H. and Gus meet to plan robberies

Black Belt: where Bigger, Mrs. Thomas, Vera, Buddy, Jack, G.H. and Gus live
