• The following version of this book was used to create this Lesson Plan: Menakem, Resmaa. My Grandmother's Hands. Central Recovery Press, Las Vegas, 2017.
• This book is written in a mix of first person and second-person perspectives and in the present tense.
• The first section in Part I is titled Watch Your Body, and in it, Menakem gives the reader advice about how people with different bodies may experience the book.
• White bodies may find themselves constricting when reading uncomfortable parts, and Menakem challenges them to just notice how they feel.
• Black bodies may experience outrage, recognition, clarity, and/or joy. Again, Menakem advises people to observe these feelings but not to latch on to them.
• And finally public safety officials might experience both of the kinds of feelings that white bodies and Black bodies feel, and Menakem advises them to allow the feelings to...
