Objective

Objective: Author: Today's lesson will focus on the introduction of the play and the author. Understanding the author of a play or novel often helps us relate to the material he/she has written. The setting and themes of a body of an author's work are often connected to the writer in some way. Certainly, the time period in which an author lives and writes affects his perspective and therefore his literature. Lanford Wilson was born in 1937 and spent his formative years in Missouri. The play The Mound Builders is set in Illinois, along the border of Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana and Illinois. Wilson later lived several years in San Diego then studied playwriting in Chicago, Illinois, at the University of Chicago. Today we will research the playwright and his contribution to American Theater.
