Lesson 1 (from Men in the Sun)

Objective

There are four main characters in "Men in the Sun," and Abul Khaizarun is the man who agrees to smuggle Assad, Abu Qais, and Marwan. Abu Qais has a wife and child and wants to provide for them the best he can, while Assad is a single man looking for a better future. Marwan wants a better life in Kuwait as well, especially since his brother has stopped helping his family financially; his father left his family in order to marry into better financial security. They all have different backgrounds, though they suffer from the same struggles as Palestinians, and this lesson will focus on character backgrounds.

Lesson

1). Graphic Organizer: Create a graphic organizer that lists the different traits and backgrounds of the characters of Men in the Sun.
