Objective

Objective: Act 1 The setting of Master Class is sparse. The piano and the lights are the only embellishments until Maria Callas enters. The few props that Maria calls for create a setting that helps illuminate Maria's character. This lesson will explore the significance of the setting of Act I.

1) Class Discussion: Discuss with the class how the sparse setting works well to create a backdrop for Maria's personality. With just the lights on her and a piano off to her side, how do they think this creates the feeling of a performance?
