It is very important to understand the actions that were taking place prior to the time of King and Malcolm. The objective of this lesson is to examine the state of race issues in America prior to King and Malcolm's involvement.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Discuss the concept of race issues as a class. What do they believe are race issues? Write a definition of racism on the board. Discuss where the students were correct in their knowledge and where they may be lacking in their knowledge. How did your understanding of race issues differ from that of the definition?
