Objective

One of the main focuses in MARINE SNIPER is the Vietnam War. Discuss the war, its causes, implications, and outcome.

Lesson

1. Research and discuss the Vietnam War as a class. When did it start? Why? Where? How? Who was the first party to fire? Collect news clippings to be used for further reference.

2. The draft was a big part of the war effort for many years. Research and discuss the draft. When was it instituted? Why? When did it stop? What is your opinion on the draft? Do you know anyone who was ever drafted? Explain.

3. Many people questioned the government's involvement in Vietnam. Compare and contrast the opinions and actions of the government with the soldiers as well as the opinions and beliefs of American citizens.

4. Homework: Read other accounts of the MARINE SNIPER to better understand the story from another point of view.
