As the novel begins, Sir Thomas, Lady Bertram and Mrs. Norris are making plans to sponsor their niece Fanny, the oldest daughter of their younger sister's large family. Mrs. Norris, the middle sister, makes this request the main focus of her life, but also makes sure that the outcome will be in her favor. This lesson will explore Mrs. Norris' influence in bringing Fanny to Mansfield Park.

1) Class Discussion: Mrs. Norris makes it possible that Fanny is invited to Mansfield Park. She presents her case to Lady Bertram and Sir Thomas, noting that it would be a "benevolent action" and the expense to them wold be little.
