Objective

Objective: One winter's day aboard the training ship during a terrible storm, a coaster crashes into an anchored schooner and a cutter of boys is launched from the training vessel to aid the crew of the stricken vessels. Jim, however, delays his arrival at the rescue vessel and when the rescue is launched, Jim is not on board. Jim rationalizes that his training was better served by remaining behind and that he will be better prepared than the boys who actually went on the rescue mission should another rescue opportunity present itself. The objective of this Lesson Plan is to examine rationalization and the role that rationalization plays in Jim's life.
