Objective: The image of the tears that Tita sheds is a powerful one, as these emotions are strong and certainly something that Tita has experienced many times in her life and in her family. Today's objective is to talk about the role of tears, how they are viewed, and how they can help.

1. Have each student discuss things that bring them to tears.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they think it is a good thing to cry or a bad thing. Why?

3. As a class, have the students discuss what they think the benefits of tears are. What are the downsides? How does society view tears? Is this view a good thing or a bad thing? Why?
