Lesson

1) Library research: Have the students research the author, Maeve Binchy. Explore the other works she has written, as well as her personal background. Take a look at interviews and the author's website to gain information on her writing and where "Light a Penny Candle" fits in with her other novels and short stories.

2) Presentation: Have students get into pairs and prepare a presentation, using their research on Binchy and her canon. Have each group read an excerpt from different novels or short stories written by Binchy during their presentations. At the end...
