Objective: Chapter 1 THE MEETING - In this chapter, the reader learns how Mary's parents first met. The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the story of Mary's parents' meeting and to discuss what this meeting tells the reader about the parents' personalities and their relationship.

1) 1.) Class Activity: As a class, create a timeline of events that led to Mary's parents' first meeting. Does this seem like a chance encounter to you? Why or why not?
