· The sire is a white man who owns Annis and Sasha and is Annis’s father.

· That night, Sasha dug up two limbs from under the tree.

· One had a tip carved like a spear, and the other was a clumsily carved wavy stick.

· Sasha had given Annis the crooked limb and told her she had whittled it when she was small.

· The other, she said was her mother’s.
