Objective

The objective of this lesson is to discuss how Elizabeth feels she is not defined by what she does, but by what others have done, and what it means to be your own person. Elizabeth has felt her entire life that she is not seen for herself. She is always defined by her family, her mentors, and now Calvin.

Lesson

Class Discussion: How has Elizabeth felt her entire life that no one knows her? How has she been defined by what others have done instead of by what she has accomplished? How has she been stereotyped? Now that she is dating Calvin, how is she seen? Why had she never been seen as Elizabeth Zott? During the few times when she is not defined by the actions of others, how is she dismissed? Why does Elizabeth feel that she is not her own person?
