Objective: Chapter 1 In this chapter, Pearl is hesitant to tell her mother about her illness. She fears her reaction and believes her mother will spout Chinese mumbo jumbo on what she should be doing to keep well. When Aunt Helen threatens to tell Winnie if Pearl does not, Pearl is forced to make a decision. This lesson will explore Pearl's reasons for keeping her multiple sclerosis a secret from her mother.
